Etymica is a platform for exploring the evolution of meaning as structured data. The system generates structured etymological lineages, renders them into multiple interactive visualisations—from semantic "Lombardi" graphs to narrative scroll views—and validates the results against a multi-layer evaluation contract.
This project is a CI601 BSc Individual Project at the University of Brighton (BSc Computer Science with AI), submitted in May 2026. It explores the intersection of historical linguistics and modern agentic AI systems.
Etymica is a structured-generation artefact, not authored scholarship. The etymological pieces are generated by large language models using public lexicographical sources. While the system gates for structural validity and content-quality signals, it does not establish factual accuracy against expert ground truth. It is an experiment in AI-mediated knowledge representation.
